On December 19, the Trail Blazers played against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center. Despite the Blazers’ disheartening loss, fans could not be happier for Lillard.

It was in 2018 when Damian Lillard realized that he could create history. During the Portland Trail Blazers’ game against the Toronto Raptors, former coach, Terry Stotts praised Lillard. Stotts congratulated Lillard who had already scored 10,ooo points at the time. While Lillard was unsure at first, the thought of? making it to 20,000 points didn’t seem like an impossible dream anymore.

“As a scorer, 20,000 points is always looked at as a special mark. From that moment, I knew it was possible, but it?s also when I first researched Clyde Drexler?s [scoring] record with the team,” Lillard told Yahoo Sports.

Lillard recently became the Blazers’ all-time leading scorer and fans can’t keep calm. The throne previously belonged to Clyde Drexler. The Hall of Famer had a total of 18,040 points.

While the Blazers had to face disappointing defeat against the OKC, the game proved to be a memorable one for Damian Lillard. The Blazers guard surpassed Clyde Drexler in the third quarter of the game. With just 21 points shy of passing Drexler, Lillard was able to make the major accomplishment during the game.

The OKC beat the Portland Trail Blazers by 123-121. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team scoring 35 points, six assists, and two rebounds. Fellow teammates Jalen Williams and Luguentz Dort both added 13 points. Forward Aaron Wiggins scored 12 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

Damian Lillard scored 28 points, six assists, and three rebounds for the Blazers. Forward Jerami Grant scored 26 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Additionally, Anfernee Simons scored 19 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
