The 2016 NBA champ Kyrie Irving shocked the sports world when he requested a trade days before the February 9 trade deadline on Friday. Reports suggest that Irving’s contract negotiations with the Brooklyn Nets management went south, after which he decided to quit Kevin Durant’s side. Kyrie Irving’s mother contacted the Nets about a contract extension last week. Irving’s contract is ending this season, and he is eligible for a four-year, $200 million contract. However, the two parties could not come to terms, resulting in an unexpected move from Irving. A disappointing update about Kyrie Irving has recently put the NBA trade enthusiasts on notice.

Many teams have shown interest in acquiring Kyrie Irving, with the trade deadline just a few days away. While the Nets would definitely demand something big in the Irving trade, the clear contender for the deal is yet to emerge. As reported by NBA Insider Chris Haynes“Brooklyn Nets intend to keep Kyrie Irving sidelined until a trade is finalized ahead of the February 9 deadline, leagues sources tell.” Amid the trade uncertainty, sources suggest that the Nets are likely planning to put a hold on Irving’s services on the team. Irving also missed out on Brooklyn’s recent game against the Washington Wizards, which they won by 125-123.

Meanwhile, the Nets have slipped in the Eastern Conference since Kevin Durant was sidelined due to an MCL sprain. The Nets have come down from the second spot in the conference to the fourth position and have a 5-5 record in the last ten games. Despite the uncertainty, sources claim that the Nets are willing to sideline Kyrie Irving after his trade demand.
