With Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James nearing retirement, many are already searching for the next LBJ. Former first-round overall pick Zion Williamson was labeled as the next LeBron even before he entered the league.

Although Williamson’s first season was cut short because of injuries, he has been redeeming himself this season. So far, Zion is averaging 25.3 points per game while knocking down 62.0% of his shots from the field.

Thanks to his insane form, he earned the NBA All-Star honors this season. In fact, he joined a pretty elite list featuring Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Magic Johnson to become the fourth-youngest All-Star in NBA history.

Honestly speaking, yes. Zion is just in his sophomore year and is playing incredible. But according to FOX Sports’ analyst Ric Bucher, he has failed to live up to the hype.

What was he supposed to be? From the very beginning. What was he advertised as? The next LeBron James. That’s what I heard, time after time, he’s the next LeBron James. And I thought he is not the next LeBron James. He doesn’t have the same game.

Although Zion has been sensational so far, he might never touch LBJ’s greatness. No offense to Zion, but when you are being compared to one of the greatest players of all-time, it’s hard to live up to the expectations.

Moreover, by his second season, LBJ established himself as the leader of the Cavaliers. However, Zion is yet to reach that level. But he still has his full career ahead of him, which means he has a chance to prove his critics wrong.
