The Houston Rockets front office will have a busy draft night. Probably the busiest in some years and now that they have picked Jalen Green as their No. 2 overall pick, their plan of rebuilding their team after James Harden’s departure has started.

Even before James Harden left, the Rockets had become a team that no fans really cared much for, despite Harden’s following. They were losing their relevance and when their superstar left, it was like a nail in their coffin. But this offseason, they plan on coming back from the dead and choosing Jalen Green might be their first step in doing so.

Jalen Green has some big shoes to fill

The Houston Rockets have been the talk of the town, even when talking about trade rumors. After they secured the No. 2 overall pick, they were willing to trade for the No. 1 pick, which is officially now Cade Cunningham. But if the Detroit Pistons aren’t willing, the Rockets are going to stick with Green.

There was also speculation at first that the Rockets were going for Evan Mobley with their pick. But later on, interest around Green rose and that was it. At times, all it really takes is one the perfect draft pick to turn the fate of the franchise around. And as per records, when the Rockets have landed the No. 2 pick, most of those players have gone on to be Hall of Famers.

As per ESPN Stats & Info, “Jalen Green is the 2nd overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. He is just the 7th player selected by the Rockets with a top-2 pick in their draft history. 5 of the previous 6 went on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Houston Rockets have bagged a winner?

Green is just coming off a one-year stint with the G-League, after skipping college, where he averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. Going into the G-League is considered the tougher route to the NBA and Green has proved his potential there.

In fact, even the Detroit Pistons were rumored to be considering choosing Green over Cade Cunningham as their No. 1. So, luckily for the Rockets, they have the young star that other teams also had eyes on. In fact, some fans are dying to watch the Rockets’ top prospect Kevin Porter Jr. joining forces with Green. What a duo this will be, right?

In addition to this rookie, the Rockets also have the No.23 and 24 overall picks. Hence, they are likely to use it as they continue their quest for a rebuild to make their comeback next season.
