The game of basketball has its rules and regulations which allow a smooth flow. And players follow these for the most part. However, over the years, the officiating has been forgiving towards some rules. Notably, the travel violation and many other offensive rules are ignored by referees and the game takes a more aggressive approach. But recently, LeBron James pointed out how even screens aren’t being done right and that needs to change.

As the game progresses, the complaints about the missed calls and bad officiating keep increasing. Modern basketball isn’t as strict with the rules. Referees let many things slide in the game’s realm. However, fans let nothing go past them. They have slandered modern offensive players such as James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo for traveling constantly. While the game is now based mainly on offense, there seem to be more calls being ignored.

LeBron James wrote, “The illegal screening in our game is crazy!! Needs to be a point of emphasis.” And frankly, the Akron Hammer has a point. With the game’s transition into an offensive-dominated sport, the rules are much kind to them.

In the traditional rule books, a screener can only remain stationary while setting a screen. However, these days we rarely see a screener keep to himself. Illegal screens have become a staple in the game. Moreover, the use of hands or legs to slow down anyone is also considered an illegal screen. That doesn’t mean all the players are doing it. There are still elite screen setters such as Steven Adams who have mastered screen setting. On the flip side, there was a huge argument about the Golden State Warriors setting illegal screens to get their shooters open. Even their former center, Andrew Bogut, spoke about how much the referees let him get away with. However, the NBA has done little about it.
