However, back in the 80s, when NBA legends such as Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson used to play. Many believed in the 5 traditional positions.

Isiah Thomas reacts to basketball specialist Rashad Phillips’ updated position list
NBA/NCAA prospect specialist Rashad Phillips recently released a list of basketball positions in his definition. He is of the opinion that the game has developed to a stage that the traditional 5 positions are becoming outdated now.
2-time NBA champion Isiah Thomas was quick to support Phillips regarding the list. Thomas handed an example of his own career to make his point while subtly taking a dig at his critics.

Like Isiah Thomas said, he was never a traditional point guard. In fact, he was, as Phillips has described, a hybrid guard. Someone who can do much more than just facilitate the ball for their team.
