NBA Insider Thinks Kevin Durant Was Crucial for Nets Not to Include a Partially Available Kyrie Irving

The embattled Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets have been at a crossroads for the past few weeks. Owing to a personal decision, the 29-year-old risked his position in the team. What was even more disappointing was the fact that this year, the Nets were firm favorites for the trophy. Along with Kevin Durant and James Harden, Kyrie was on the verge of setting the stage on fire. Instead, the internal dispute has caused the franchise to show him the doors.
Up until a few days ago, there was still hope for the guard. He returned to the team’s training, and may have hoped that the management changes its stance. However, it was not meant to be. After spending four years at Brooklyn, the All-star is most likely on his way out. Barring any last-minute change in their stance, Harden and Durant will be without the third musketeer this year. And according to recent reports, 33-year-old Durant supports the team’s call.

When asked about Kyrie’s call, the former Golden State Warriors marquee signing backed his teammate fully. He said that he will support Kyrie no matter what, but the player and team have reached the dead end of the road. In an official press release, Nets GM Sean Marks confirmed that if their viewpoints do not match, Irving will not be allowed to train or play for Steve Nash’s side. And KD is likely to back his team’s call completely, leaving the former Celtic on the verge of exit.

As reported by Brian Windhorst of ESPN, “It’s very unlikely that Kevin Durant does not support this [Nets’] decision…” If this is true, it means that the superstar is prepared for a future without his compatriot. Speaking on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’, Windhorst continued “This is a very important point, because he [Kyrie Irving] has no greater ally in this NBA than Durant.” During his time at Brooklyn, Irving averaged close to 26 points.
Is this the end of the road for Kyrie Irving at Brooklyn? He may not have lost the support of Durant, but it is difficult for a player to contradict his team’s personal choice. Thus, the #11 will be forced to find a new home very soon. Any recommendations? Let us know.
