The NBA might be at the peak of its powers, with multiple competitive teams and star players putting on a show day in and day out, but one of the biggest concerns for the league has been the officiating of matches.

This was evident in the recent ejection of Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker against the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite not committing a dangerous foul, the 2-time All-Star was ejected from the game. Understandably, pundits and former NBA players questioned the refereeing in the game.

In a recent press release, the league and the concerned referees have dropped a statement clarifying why Booker was ejected from the game.

This is not the first time the league referees have taken such a questionable decision this season. A week ago, Pelicans’ JJ Reddick was ejected from the game after he accidentally hit the referee with the ball.

Parker certainly made an interesting point on how a player’s reputation on the court plays a big part in refereeing. She said, “If you’re known for yelling at refs, you get a lot more leeway.

The WNBA star also claimed that the referees should try to cool off the players. “You know, you need a little bit of decompression within a point, so that’s why I asked if he had gotten a technical before that. Because as a ref aren’t you supposed to let your player calm down a little bit?”

This is a rising issue with the league so far this season. What makes it more frustrating is the inconsistencies in the calls. This rising tide of questionable calls in the league has been a sore thumb for the NBA. Will the league address this issue anytime soon?
