NBA legend Michael Jordan is one of the best players ever. He is considered the GOAT of the game by millions around the world. And it is not without reason. Throughout his career, Jordan dominated his opponents like no other player. Over the course of his career, MJ has won 6 NBA titles, 6 Finals MVP awards, and 5 NBA MVP awards, among other accolades. He was not just good at scoring, MJ dominated both ends of the court. After his retirement, the fans have been expecting to see someone like him.

The next Michael Jordan?

Whenever a young guy shows flashes of greatness, he is compared to MJ. Recently, Anthony Edwards has been garnering a lot of comments for his uncanny resemblance to the legend. And he has been hailed as the next Michael Jordan.

But the Minnesota Timberwolves star played football most of his childhood. However, he started playing basketball with his siblings in his grandmother’s backyard. The All-Star’s brother Antoine and sister Antoinette sat down with Dell Curry and Sonya for their podcast, ‘Raising Fame: Sports Edition’ in 2020. This was before Anthony Edwards was drafted to the NBA.

In the podcast, Georgette revealed that the 4 siblings always played 2 on 2 in their grandma’s backyard. She said, “We all used to play like every time… We used to check each other because he was younger and I was the female, so I used to check him. So we always going at it…”

Anthony Edwards’ path to the NBA

During the chat, the Edwards siblings revealed intrinsic details about their childhood. When Dell Curry asked whether the ‘Ant-Man’ was a better football player or basketball player, Antoine said that it is hard to answer because his brother was a good footballer as well.

However, Anthony’s basketball games with his siblings made him realize his love for the game. Antoine revealed his brother was recruited by Georgia for football as well. But Anthony chose to play basketball for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Edwards’ path to the NBA wasn’t the easiest. In the span of a few months, the four Edwards children lost both their mother and grandmother to cancer. And their father wasn’t in their lives. So the two oldest siblings had to grow fast and do their best to create a stable home.

This created a strong bond between the siblings. After impressing for the Bulldogs, Anthony Edwards declared for the NBA draft. The Timberwolves selected him as the 1st overall pick in 2020.
