NBA Twitter In Utter Disbelief After the League Released the Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP Trophy’s First Look: “We Miss You Mamba”

With the All-Star weekend only a few weeks away, the NBA made some exciting revelations. They released all the new trophies for the contests as well as the All-Star game MVP. The trophy which was renamed to Kobe Bryant All-Star Game MVP now has a new look that honors the late great for all the achievements through his illustrious career.

The award is now a four-level trophy, with each level paying homage to multiple of Bryant’s career highlights.

In the wake of Kobe’s unfortunate passing in 2020, the NBA did their part in paying him respect. They changed the entire format of the All-Star game and also renamed the MVP trophy after him. While the trophy design remained the same, this year they have revamped the award to truly honor the Black Mamba.

NBA honors new Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP trophy

Kobe was a pioneer when it came to the NBA. Moreover, he is also the player who holds the record for most All-Star appearances with 18. Moreover, he has also won the record-tying four All-Star game MVPs. Hence, the NBA named the trophy after him, and this year they took it to the next level. This left NBA Twitter emotional as they remembered the Mamba.

The trophy has four levels, with each holding a different message. The base covers eight sides that represent his jersey number 8. It also has 18 stars and is 2 inches tall for his 18 All-Star appearances and 2002 All-Star game MVP. The first level is 7 inches tall and has 24 stars. This references his 2007 All-Star game MVP along with his number 24 and the number of All-Stars.

The second level pays homage to his Olympic number as well as his 2009 All-Star game MVP. And the third and fourth levels cover his remaining All-Star game MVP in 2011, 2 NBA finals MVP, regular-season MVP, and his five championships. It is a really thoughtful trophy that truly encapsulates the greatness of Kobe Bryant.
