The Los Angeles Lakers have decided not to extend Isaiah Thomas’ contract. Due to the restrictions imposed by the NBA’s health and safety protocols, the Lakers have a shortage of players, but it doesn’t seem like Thomas is going to stay on.

He got a contract from the Lakers for 10 days, post his impressive debut in the G-League, where he scored 42 points.

Thomas made his debut with the Lakers in their recent match where they faced the Timberwolves. In that contest, he had 19 points to his name. In the following game, where the Lakers faced the Bulls, he scored 13 points.

Following clearance of all NBA health and safety protocols, the Los Angeles Lakers welcomed Russell Westbrook

In the match against the Phoenix Suns, Thomas’ performance was not noteworthy. His performance against the San Antonio Spurs followed suit.

Due to Russell Westbrook entering the NBA’s health and safety requirements, the Lakers required a replacement, during which Thomas took his place for a ten-day contract.  However, his performances seem to have not impressed the Lakers who decided not to give him a second chance. At the moment, the Lakers have signed Darren Collison to a ten-day contract.

Shams Charania stated in his tweet that Thomas is still getting a lot of offers from teams due to the current player shortage. That allows Thomas to regain some of his heat.

However, with the Lakers, it didn’t go according to plan.

With Rajon Rondo entering health and safety, the situation looks dire. However, Russell’s return means that Thomas’ deal had to come to an end. The Lakers have also opted for another player.

Only time will tell whether the contract with Collison will yield the desired results for the Lakers. Thomas, who had been a part of the Lakers roster briefly in 2018, did not put up splendid performances this time. However, one can certainly hope that Thomas will soon regain his mojo and show his abilities on the court.
