Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson faced a lot of heat after his game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Over the years, the NBA has witnessed a multitude of heated moments on the hardwood as players engage in verbal back-and-forths in the heat of the moment. Similarly, the Warriors shooting guard got involved in a controversial moment and received a technical foul for taunting a Grizzlies player. After the game, Thompson made a statement regarding the Dubs’ recent rivalry with the Memphis Grizzlies, which attracted a lot of flak from fans online.

The Warriors received a total of six technical fouls on their Christmas day match-up against the Grizzlies. The Dubs fully developed their rivalry against the Grizzlies since their last outing in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, during the 2021-22 season.

Klay Thompson attracts criticism from fans after post-game remarks

In a video tweeted by the ESPN Sports Center, Klay Thompson spoke to ESPN right after the game. The reporter asked him what message does he want to send after a victory against the Grizzlies. Thompson said, “They was talking about dynasty and all that, you can’t talk dynasty when you haven’t won before.” He continued, “I thought that was a premature talk.”  The younger Splash brother concluded his remarks, saying, “Even though we don’t like them [Grizzlies], we gotta respect them. Cause they are a threat.” The video sparked a lot of criticism from NBA fans.

Addressing the press after the game, Klay Thompson explained his stance on the technical foul, which he received for taunting Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks in the fourth quarter. He said, ” I forgot about the taunting rule.

The Warriors win the Christmas day game

Despite all the drama, the Warriors registered an impressive win against the Grizzlies (123-109). Jordan Poole displayed a stirring performance with 32 points supported by Thompson with 23 points. Ja Morant‘s 36 points effort went in vain for the Grizzlies. The Dubs claimed their second win in the absence of Stephen Curry this season.
