Will Ime Udoka fill in Steve Nash’s shoes at the Brooklyn Nets? As of now, the answer to that question is undecided. NBA Insider Marc Stein recently reported about the dilemma that the Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai is probably facing. According to Stein, several people are discouraging Tsai from hiring the former Boston Celtics head coach. The new development came to light after Stein tweeted the information on November 7, 2022.

The Brooklyn Nets are not exactly having a smooth run since the NBA season 2022-23 began. Out of the ten games played to date, the Nets are already down by six. On top of that, the Nets’ head coach Steve Nash recently parted ways with the franchise after the team’s game against the Indiana Pacers. Apparently, both parties mutually decided that it was the right time to make the change.

“It was an amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for. It was a pleasure to work with the players, performance team and front office everyday,” said Nash.

After Nash’s departure, former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka reportedly became the likely replacement as the new head coach. However, several voices are strongly urging Tsai to not hire Udoka and mostly because of the ongoing ‘turmoil’ that the Nets are already facing this season.

The Brooklyn Nets might not hire Ime Udoka

In September 2022, Ime Udoka was suspended by the Boston Celtics after he was found guilty of inappropriate workplace behavior. The decision came in after a law firm conducted an investigation. The firm revealed that Udoka had violated multiple league rules. Udoka is currently serving a year-long suspension. However, the Celtics said that he would be allowed to take up other offers as the head coach.

After the news of Udoka’s possible future in the Nets got out, several members of the management were trying to talk Tsai out of hiring the head coach. Given that the Nets are already in a major Kyrie Irving controversy, it might the reason why the front office is reluctant to hire a suspended head coach.

The Nets suspended Kyrie Irving after the NBA star garnered severe criticism for posting about a movie that contained antisemitic tropes. Irving received condemnation from several sports stars and fans for his unapologetic behavior. Furthermore, when asked about the post, he lashed out at a reporter during a media session in defense of his actions.

All these factors led to the Nets pulling out Irving from at least five games. Following the announcement, Irving later made a public apology for hurting people’s sentiments.
