NBA players often have some of the most interesting stories to tell in the world of sports. More often than not, these stories involve the players getting into some major trouble outside the basketball court. One such incident occurred in 1995 when three basketball stars were in Orlando. The players in question are Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, and Brian Shaw. While Kidd was in his second year, Payton was in his sixth NBA year, and Shaw was the veteran in the group.

During a recent interview, Kidd talked about the infamous incident. “We need the two other guys to be sitting here with me,” said Kidd, while dropping a major truth bomb about the 1995 Waffle House incident.

Jason Kidd drops a major truth bomb about the infamous Waffle House incident

Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, and Brian Shaw had reportedly entered an Orlando Waffle House around 2-3 am in the morning following a charity event in the city. The next thing you know, they were kicked out of the restaurant! The scandalous news made headlines the next day.

Reportedly, the waitresses accused the players of threatening employees and shouting obscenities. Years after this incident, it seems Kidd revealed what really happened that night.

It seems like the former Mavs star was never in the restaurant in the first place! Rather, he was exhausted from the event and playing golf, which is why he was taking a nap in the car.

Jason Kidd said, “We go to Orlando for a charity event and after the event, I’m exhausted because I had golfed that day and Gary and B Shaw did not. So, we go to eat at the Waffle House. I stay in the car because I’m exhausted and said I’m going to sleep.”

“We all should have been in bed but those two were hungry…I never entered the Waffle House, I never left the car,” continued Kidd. Brian Shaw had denied all the allegations right after the news spread like wildfire.

“We were laughing and talking loudly. I told her to go ahead and call police. We weren’t doing anything wrong,” said Shaw. Interestingly, it seems Shaw allegedly threatened to buy the Waffle House so that he could fire all the employees!

Has Kidd been involved in other controversies?

Whether he was involved in the 1995 Waffle House incident or not, Jason Kidd has had his fair share of controversies while in the NBA. In 2001, Kidd was arrested after he allegedly hit his then-wife. Following this, he was told to take anger management classes while also paying a hefty fee. Additionally, he was traded to the Nets from the Phoenix Suns.

Kidd caught himself in another controversy in 2004. The Dallas Mavericks coach fell out with Byron Scott, the New Jersey coach in 2003, and he apparently had a huge role in Scott’s banishment from the team.
