One of the biggest disappointments last season was the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite having stars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook on their roster, the team failed to make it to the playoffs.
This started a long rebuilding process. The first step in rebuilding was the sacking of Frank Vogel, the former head coach of the Lakers. Former NBA star and former Lakers and Bucks assistant coach, Darvin Ham, replaced him. Coaching the Lakers is no easy job and Ham seems to be up for the challenge.

One of the biggest questions on the minds of the fans is the situation regarding Westbrook. The former MVP joined the Lakers from the Washington Wizards amidst much fanfare. However, he struggled to find his former self and was bashed by the media and the fans alike.

Despite all the backlash and the exit rumors, it seems Russ is going to continue with the Lakers for the 2022-23 season. When asked whether Westbrook will be started in case he stays on the team, Ham said, “Yes indeed.”
Moreover, Darvin Ham talked about his plans of using Russ. He said, “I got a wholehearted plan, a clear plan on how I’m going to use him. I think he’s going to flourish. We ain’t going to try to curtail his energy.“

Getting him back to his MVP form will be key for the Lakers’ championship hopes this season. As it stands, Russell Westbrook is a member of the team, and the coach counts on him.
How did Russell Westbrook perform last season?
In case you have been living under a rock, the Los Angeles Lakers failed to make it into the playoffs for the 2021-22 season. Russell Westbrook’s bad shooting and his turnovers cost the team some precious points. Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.1 assists, and 7.4 rebounds for the 2021-22 season.

However, he was not the sole reason for the Lakers’ disaster. Anthony Davis was out with injury for long periods and LeBron James‘ individual efforts were not enough to save the team.
