NFL star Ezekiel Elliott has officially made his exit from the Dallas Cowboys after seven long years. The 27-year-old Running back was selected by the Cowboys in 2016 as the fourth overall pick. Previously considered to be one of the best running backs in the league, Elliott’s popularity started waning after he signed a six-year contract extension with the Cowboys in 2019. As Elliott now begins looking for a new home, Cowboys fans, including NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, expressed their gratitude to the young RB via a special video.

On March 15, NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero dropped a major bomb on the NFL world by informing about Ezekiel Elliott’s exit from the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott was in the fourth year of his six-year contract with the Cowboys that was worth $90 million.

Several days before the major update, ESPN‘s Todd Archer reported that the Cowboys have used their franchise tag ahead of the trade deadline for 25-year-old RB Tony Pollard. Reportedly, the deal is worth a whopping $10.09 million.

Archer wrote, “The Cowboys would like to sign Pollard to a multiyear deal and met with his agent at last week’s scouting combine. If they are unable to reach an agreement by July 15, Pollard would have to play the season on the tag.”

Shaquille O’Neal reacts to Elliott’s departure

It is no secret that Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Following the news of Ezekiel Elliott’s exit from Dallas, a video made by a fan as a tribute to the former Cowboys player has been making rounds on the Internet. The short clip caught the attention of the Big Aristotle who shared the post on his Instagram handle.

The NFL fan known as @earthscheerleader had originally shared the video on their Instagram profile. It contained several montages of Elliott from various games and in large blue and white letters were written, ‘Thank you 21’. Several Dallas fans joined Shaq in acknowledging the veteran RB’s contributions.
