Very little came in the way of Michael Jordan when he stepped onto the hardwood. However, his talents had limitations when it came to his off-court ventures. While the 6x NBA champion touched the zenith of basketball during his run with Chicago Bulls, his stint as a front-office executive can only be considered subpar. Consequently, the hoops world has often criticized Jordan for the decisions he made as the majority stake owner of the Charlotte Hornets. Rubbing salt into the wound, this time it was a particular NFL legend who had a few things to say about MJ’s capabilities as the franchise owner.

Three years after retiring from the league, Michael Jordan became a minority stake owner of the Charlotte Hornets, then known as the Bobcats. He eventually bought majority stakes and then made a few draft decisions that did not particularly benefit the franchise.

Football legend criticizes Michael Jordan

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Charlotte Hornets might soon have a new majority owner, if the ongoing deal between the two parties involved pulls through. Amidst that, Denver Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe gave his take on Michael Jordan’s decade-long run as the Hornets owner. In the latest episode of UNDISPUTED, Sharpe gave a brief run-down on Jordan’s administrative career. He said, “He’s the best at one thing and he’s horrible at something else. And that’s the way you can sum up his ownership or his tenure as the owner of the Hornets. Skip, it’s been a disaster.”

Furthermore, he added, “I hate to see it, I hate to say it. I don’t think he might be the only black, I mean we have other minorities that own professional teams but black, he’s the only one. And it seems like that’s not gonna last for much longer. Skip, I think it’s frustrating. I think it’s finally beating him down.”

Additionally, Sharpe talked about the number of ‘wrong’ draft decisions Jordan took over the years. Sharpe applauded MJ for acquiring Kemba Walker and LaMelo Ball. However, the football legend criticized the billionaire businessman for acquiring Adam Morrison, Frank Kaminsky, and Bismack Biyombo, among several others.

MJ to give up full control of the Hornets

Michael Jordan is reportedly in talks for the sale of his majority stake in the Hornets. While Jordan is yet to make the final call, the deal is likely to go to one particular group. Hornets minority owner Gabe Plotkin and Atlanta Hawks minority owner Rick Schnall are currently the frontrunners for the deal.

However, His Airness will still remain a part of the franchise board as the owner of the minor shares. Based on Sharpe’s comments, it seems like Jordan’s frustration has finally led him to make a major decision for the Hornets.
