LeBron James has been one of the leaders when it comes to speaking out against social or racial injustice. He has always taken care of his community and he doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind. Although this has been a commendable feature of ‘The King’, his latest comments on the Brittney Griner situation have caused a stir.

James uses the platform he is given to speak out against injustice. On the latest episode of ‘Uninterrupted: The Shop,’ LeBron spoke about how America has failed Griner. He received massive criticism for his comments and he had to clarify his opinion on Twitter. NFL legend, Shannon Sharpe, who is also a huge admirer of James, had to drop a reality check bomb on his favorite athlete.

While speaking about the situation on ‘Undisputed‘, Sharpe said, “He’s in an unwinnable position.” He mentioned that LeBron knows the kind of influence he has on the world. He said, “LeBron knows everything he says gets picked apart.” However, he wished that James would have worded his statement differently.

Even though it wasn’t the best possible way to say it, Sharpe appreciated what LeBron did. He said, “I give him kudos for trying to bring attention to a situation that we’re talking about.” James has always been vocal while speaking up against injustice. He knows that even though he’s an athlete, he has a responsibility toward society.

Sharpe also mentioned that the comments LeBron made were about a month ago and the episode just got released recently. During that period, there have been efforts made by the American government to solve the situation.

LeBron James should have known better

Shannon goes on to say that LeBron could have done a better job at making his feelings known. “You got to have thick skin, Skip, you got to have it. If you’re going to weigh in and deal with something outside of your genre, the criticism’s gonna come,” Shannon said.

He also mentions that people always criticize you if you give unsolicited opinions about others’ jobs and responsibilities. However, LeBron is not the kind of person who just ‘shuts up and dribbles.’ He has always given his opinion and won’t shy away from continuing to do so.
