Dwyane Wade, aka ‘The Legend of Miami’, played the majority of his career with the Heat. However, there came a time when the 3-time champion called it quits on the Miami Heat. Wade was believed to be a franchise player, considering what he had contributed to the Heat Nation. However, he left the team in 2015 with things taking a turn. In an interview with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, Wade spoke about his sudden switch of teams and the reason behind it.

After Wade’s first title in 2006, the Heat went on to bring in some of the best players in the league as things started to not entirely go their way. There were a lot of sacrifices the Heat players had to make in 2010. However, Wade’s $1.5 million sacrifice was something unexpected!

The Heat Nation will never forget the 2006 championship. Alongside Shaquille O’Neal and Gary Payton, Wade and the Heat came down from a 0-2 deficit in the finals to break the Mavericks. The Heat were expected to do wonders from then on. However, things did not go as planned. Wade and Co faced a first-round exit in 2007 and did not make it to the postseason in 2008. This is when Dwyane Wade started to make huge sacrifices!

LeBron James and Chris Bosh’s addition in 2010 helped the Heat get back on track. These three superstars had to make a huge sacrifice and most of it came from Dwyane Wade. As per reports, the Miami legend had to let go of $1.5 million each year from his contract to bring in James and Bosh and to make Udonis Haslem stay.

This adjustment helped the Heat win two titles from there. However, even after that, the Heat franchise was not ready to give Wade a max contract for multiple years. Wade shared, “This is business, it’s a cold world… I left for obviously a few different reasons, but it hurt… The business have to make a decision. Unfortunately for me, the decision that I wanted them to make at the time, I wanted them to make it, they didn’t make.”

The Heat had different plans altogether!

Things went downhill after their scoring leader’s exit in 2014. LeBron James’ exit had quite an effect on the Heat as the franchise lost one of its biggest superstars. The Heat gave Wade a 1-year $20 million contract, but he had been expecting multiple years.

Moreover, the Heat wanted to replace the 4-time champion with Kevin Durant who was in OKC. If the Heat were to bring in KD, then Wade would not receive the max contract. The 3-time champion eventually decided to enter free agency and later joined the Chicago Bulls. Though Wade joined the Heat Nation again in two years, news of his exit in 2016 broke again.
