Why are there no NBA games on Thanksgiving?
In the last 12 years there were no NBA games organized on Thanksgiving. As all 30 teams are given a day off. The NBA is known to take a break on Christmas too. One of the primary reasons is due to competition from other sports. There seems to be a tradition of watching football while celebrating Thanksgiving.

The NFL has a monopoly and occupies primetime. Furthermore, because of the footballing tradition, it will be hard for the NBA to compete with NFL. However, the NBA is an 82-game long season, and taking a break in between won’t hurt the league. The players can also enjoy some time with their families and rest for a full recovery.
