NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal never shies away from speaking his mind. The four-time NBA champion has made a name for himself as an analyst because of his blunt and honest takes. However, even he was left a little surprised after millionaire rapper Nicki Minaj rejected his marriage proposal instantly.

O’Neal is a man of many talents. He is a legendary basketball player, a brilliant businessman, an excellent father, and a philanthropist. Furthermore, the 7’1″ giant once displayed his rapping abilities during a freestyle session with his fellow analysts on ‘NBA on TNT’. Nicki Minaj was the judge of the contest.

Kenny ‘The Jet’ Smith was first up and impressed the eight-time American Music Awards winner. Grant Hill followed and though he read his lines from a piece of paper, he still did well. After Hill, it was O’Neal‘s turn to impress the iconic rapper. He started, “All these ballers trying to be like me if this was hip hop I’m B-I-G“.

However, what followed left everyone in splits. O’Neal continued, “Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?”. Minaj instantly rejected the big man’s proposal. “Oh, she said no! Man, messing up the flow!”, a disappointed Shaq continued his cypher as Hill and Minaj couldn’t contain their laughter.

However, O’Neal grabbed everyone’s attention again with his surprisingly good rap. He eventually had to end his freestyle after he ran out of breath. The charisma which everyone has grown accustomed to was on full display in his performance.

Shaquille O’Neal has a long history of rapping

The 15-time NBA All-Star released four studio albums during his playing days. O’Neal recorded his first studio album in 1993 which was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He released three more albums over the next 5 years with features from iconic rappers such as Method Man, RZA, Jay-Z, and The Notorious B.I.G.

On top of the studio albums, the Los Angeles Lakers legend recorded two compilation albums, two soundtracks, one unreleased album, and nine singles. He even performed a freestyle once trashing his former teammate Kobe Bryant during their infamous feud. However, he made it up by releasing a rap dedicated to his foe-turned-friend after the latter’s unfortunate demise.
