When you have a truckload of hard-earned money coming in every year, you tend to spare a few to fulfill your luxurious wishes. People tend to buy ridiculously expensive stuff that would make just about everyone question the intentions behind it. Sometimes it makes sense, and sometimes it doesn’t. One such item is possessed by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. While the item is certainly useful, LeBron’s decision to own a $6.5 million worth product seems to make no sense nevertheless.

When it comes to owning ridiculously expensive items, LeBron James is not the only one who has a knack for it. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will most probably be included in the top five at the very least. Not only does he own a $400,000 luxurious tree house, but the Big Aristotle also has an entire room dedicated to aquatic life.

LeBron James splurges on a watch

Among the several extravagant items owned by billionaire athlete LeBron James, the Patek Philippe watch probably looks the most inexpensive. However, it was anything but cheap. The 4x NBA champion wore the “Tiffany Blue” Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711 during the Super Bowl LVI. The limited edition watch was released about two months earlier in December 2021.

The video of LeBron’s pricey possession was recently shared by REBOUND. The narrator did not refrain from expressing his disbelief in the Lakers superstar’s lavish expenditure.

He said, “This man spent $6.5 million on a watch and this thing is boring as hell. It’s got no diamonds, no sapphires. It’s not set in rose gold, nothing. I mean, d*mn Bron, you really spent 6 million on that? Even I got a nicer watch. What are you doing?”

Why is the watch worth millions of dollars?

For those who are unaware, Patek Philippe is a Genevan luxury brand owned by the Stern family. Watches in their collection can go as high as $17 million. The Nautilus 5711 is the result of their collaboration with the luxury jewelry brand Tiffany & Co.

Several months after discontinuing the model, Patek Philippe released only 170 editions of the Nautilus 5711 to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the company. The watches were exclusively available for their VIP clients, who were able to buy them for $52,635. However, one of them was sold for $6.5 million to an unknown buyer during an auction.
