It has been almost a month since Tyre Nichols passed away leaving the world stunned as a new case of police brutality came to light. The horrific incident took place on January 7 when five police officers stopped Nichols for alleged reckless driving. Nichols succumbed to his injuries three days after getting hospitalized. He had received severe beatings from the officers that reportedly caused his death, sparking nationwide protests. NBA analyst Charles Barkley recently addressed the death of the Memphis resident. He also made a strong point on why people need to watch the gruesome video of the incident.
Following an investigation, the police department fired the five police officers involved on January 20 and charged them with the death of Nichols. According to reports, a sixth officer, whose body cam footage was released, has been suspended for his involvement. The Memphis police released the bodycam footage of the frightful incident on January 27.

Additionally, they also talked about the body cam footage that showed proof of police brutality against the 29-year-old FedEx employee. NBA veteran Charles Barkley condemned the whole incident and recommended the viewers to watch the video for a significant reason. He expressed his disbelief over the actions of the six uniformed personnel involved in the brutal incident.

Barkley said, “I recommend… no matter how painful, how brutal it is, you need to look at that video. You need to look at the video because lack of humanity is all on display and it just hurts your heart.”
Furthermore, he added, “If you got a heart, you can’t fathom treating another human being like that. And it is supposed to be about the people who’s supposed to protect. You know, you see it on the car ‘Protect and Serve’. And it’s hard for me to imagine, people treating other people like that.”

Both Barkley and Johnson reflected on the situation Nichols was in and the occurrence visibly saddened them. An emotional Barkley concluded the discussion by stating that ‘we just got to do better’.

NBA stars mourn Tyre Nichols’ death
Following the tragic incident, several famous personalities from the sports world came forth to express their grief over Tyre Nichols’ death. NBA superstars LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Magic Johnson took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the situation.

Similar to Charles Barkley, Paul too pressed on the importance of humanity. CP3 tweeted, “Change is needed at all levels and we all need to do our part. We can’t lose our humanity as a society. To the Nichols’ family and Memphis community, my heart is with you tonight.”
Whereas, LeBron and Johnson expressed their anger over the unjust incident and condemned the actions of the perpetrators.
