The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA lottery on Tuesday and are likely to land Victor Wembanyama in the 2023 NBA draft. Wembanyama is considered a generational talent and some even believe he is the greatest NBA prospect ever. As we inch closer to the draft, there is little doubt the Frenchman would be the #1 pick. After the Spurs won the lottery, their fans were understandably elated. However, the same cannot be said about the other fan bases. Moreover, many questioned the lottery on social media after a comment from a rival scout.

The Spurs and the Houston Rockets were the two worst teams in the Western Conference this season with 22 wins and 60 losses. However, the worst team in the league was the Detroit Pistons with 17 wins and 65 losses. These three teams had the best odds of landing the #1 pick and luck rode in San Antonio’s favor.

The Detroit Pistons were not lucky in the lottery and only received the 5th pick despite being the worst team in the league this season. While the Charlotte Hornets got the second pick, the Portland Trail Blazers won the third. Also, the Houston Rockets came in fourth, ahead of the Pistons. Understandably, most fans were not happy about possibly missing out on Victor Wembanyama. Furthermore, that was apparently the case with an NBA executive as well.

After the lottery, it was reported that an unnamed rival scout expressed his frustration about the Spurs getting the #1 pick. The scout reportedly talked about the Spurs winning the lottery to pick NBA legends like David Robinson and Tim Duncan in the past. Additionally, he was not happy about the team’s “luck” to get three of the biggest center prospects in the last 35 years.
