Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his family have major reservations regarding safety; following the Town Council’s proposal on housing development. To voice their worry, Curry and his wife Ayesha penned a letter to the town council of Atherton. In the letter, the couple bluntly opposed the proposal. However, they also stated that they were willing to make a compromise.

The city council of Atherton proposed the upzoning of property behind the Curry residence. According to this proposal, the plan is to transform a single-family home into 16 townhouses. This plan was devised to fulfill the state-mandated housing development. However, this could prove to be unsafe for the NBA star and his family.

The couple reminded the council that the proposed townhouses in their area would not fix the issue of low-income housing as required by the state. Their stance was supported by a member of the council, Rick DeGolia. DeGolia claimed that the construction of low-income housing would not be practical for Atherton because the land is priced at $8 million per acre.

The couple stated that they were “pleased when it was previously removed from the housing element.” With this in mind, the Currys requested the council. They wrote, “We kindly ask that the town adopts the new housing element without the inclusion of 23 Oakwood.”

The compromise the Curry clan is willing to make

While voicing their concerns, the Currys offered to make a comprise. They wrote that if the housing proposal was not withdrawn, they asked the town to invest “in considerably taller fencing and landscaping to block sight lines onto” the family’s house.
