Russell Westbrook is going through a strange patch this season, where he is scoring triple doubles but also witnessing a downward spiral in his career. The Wizards are losing hopelessly, and even with Bradley Beal scoring nuts, and there’s nothing going their way. Washington’s recent 100-116 loss against the Atlanta Hawks added to their misery.

There was not one point in the game where the Wizards matched the quality of the Hawks. As the frustration grew, the tension in the air thickened, and it resulted in a flurry of technical fouls. John Collins, Moe Wagner, Russell Westbrook; everyone received fouls in a match that seemed to be handled more by the officials than by the coaches.

After receiving his first technical foul during the end of Q2, Russ again got into a scuffle and was ejected just two minutes into the decisive quarter. Rajon Rondo followed in his opponent’s footsteps and was ejected with five minutes remaining in the game. It was a live-wire game with almost every other player running with a hothead.

In the post-game interview, Russell Westbrook told the reporters, “Ah, sh**. Honestly, it’s more on me. I cannot allow myself to stoop down to anybody’s level. That’s not my character, who I am…”

By the time they ejected Russ, he had timed 27 minutes and scored 26 points, 6 rebs, 4 assists, and 1 block. One can only imagine that if he was around for nine more minutes, the game could’ve been impacted in a different way.

The Atlanta Hawks further exposed the Wizards to misery

Hawks’ Trae Young looked unguardable against the Wizards. He dropped five three-pointers and scored 41 points to snatch the victory away from the Wizards. They are a scary unit that defeated the shorthanded Clippers and then came very close to defeating the Nets.

After the game, Wizards’ top gun Bradley Beal too expressed his disappointment in himself and felt he could not give his best.

But on the contrary, Wizards’ Scott Brooks sounded positive about his team’s probable comeback. His eyes could see some positives in a game plagued by technicals as he hinted that the incoming of bench players after completing the health & safety protocols will boost their chances.
