The NBA has seen some elite trash-talkers over the years. Although at times, the trash talk takes an ugly turn, on most occasions it’s good for the sport. Even the recently retired Carmelo Anthony has faced one of the biggest trash talkers in his NBA days. However, their encounter sparked a controversy that lasted years before the air around it was cleared.
There are some other instances when the tough talk on or off the court fuels the opponent. In one such case, Kevin Garnett, a Hall of Famer once pushed an ex-NBA star toward greatness. During their recent conversation, both the stars acknowledged each other’s greatness and the push they got from their beef.

Kevin Garnett reminisces on his on-court rivalry with ex-NBA star
Garnett is considered to be one of the greatest power forwards of all time. He was extremely effective in his defensive abilities and was among the best in dunking. His dunks even earned him the nickname “Big Ticket.” Additionally, KG was also one of the finest trash talkers who could manage to get under anyone’s skin with his words.
All of this was a big part of his persona as a competitive individual on the court. Recently, Garnett sat down with one of his opponents back from his NBA days as they discussed the impact of their rivalry. The 2008 NBA champion also acknowledged the brilliance of his rival.

On the recent episode of KG Certified, Garnett sat down for a conversation with Joakim Noah. Noah is a 2x NBA All-Star who locked horns with Garnett while playing for the Chicago Bulls. The 2004 NBA MVP said that he did his research before facing the Bulls star but he turned out to be different than what he expected.
Garnett said, “When I played you, it was a different experience.” He added that Noah had a different vibration and IQ compared to what he was expecting. “Not to say I’ve seen you as a threat or nothing like that,” Garnett said that everything was in the name of fair competition and they battled it out on the court, mentally and physically.

When Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony went against each other, sparking a long-standing controversy
Anthony recently retired from the NBA after spending 19 seasons in the league. The 9th all-time highest scorer and KG were arch nemesis on the court. Once during their in-game battles, Garnett allegedly made a comment on La La Anthony, who was Carmelo’s wife at the time. The “Honey Nut Cheerios” drama is what it is best known as.

Allegedly, KG had said that La La tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios, which boiled up to a situation where the two NBA stars were ready to get physical over it. However, the controversy was put to rest by La La as she addressed it in her book, denying that KG hasn’t said any such thing. In 2021, the man himself said that he has never said anything about anyone’s family, ever.
