“Our Country Sucks Taking Care of Vets”: Charles Barkley Slams USA Before Praising NBA Star for His Service

An NBA player who had previously been an All-Star has been named the 2023 Most Improved Player of the Year by the league and is making headlines these days. The player, who plays forward for the Utah Jazz, won the award due to their consistency throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Now Charles Barkley who has always been vocal about everything that has been happening around, shared his opinion on the country. 

Lauri Markkanen, a forward for the Utah Jazz, has been awarded the title of 2023 Most Improved Player of the Year by the NBA. The Finnish player, who was previously an All-Star, earned the award due to his exceptional performance throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. This recognition puts him above other outstanding players such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Brunson.

On the Inside the NBA show, Markkanen appeared virtually and was praised by the hosts for his achievement. Charles Barkley, one of the hosts, also took the opportunity to express his appreciation for Markkanen’s military service. Barkley pointed out that the country needs to do better in taking care of its veterans and thanked Markkanen for his service.

Barkley said, “As a guy who has admiration and respect for anybody who served in the military. I’ve got a lot of love and respect for you. And one thing, we need to do better and our country, the way we take care of our vets. Our country sucks taking care of vets. But I really admire anybody who goes into service and I just want to say thank you man.”

Markkanen’s consistency throughout the season was one of the reasons why he won the award. He received 69 first-place votes, followed by Gilgeous-Alexander with 34 votes, and Brunson with 25 votes. Markkanen’s impressive shooting stats also played a significant role in his selection, with over 49.9% from the field and over 39.1% from beyond the arc. Additionally, he averaged 25.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Markkanen’s remarkable rise: from injury setbacks to most improved player of the year

Markkanen’s on-court talent was a surprise to many fans, which resulted in his selection to the All-Star team. Before joining the Utah Jazz, Markkanen played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He contributed 14.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game on average for the Cavaliers in 2021–2022.
