LeBron James and Stephen Curry might be rivals on the court, but when it comes to matters of national importance, they play on the same team.

The former US President Donald Trump was a mercurial man. Many have criticized his presidency for reopening old wounds and giving space to extremists. James has been open about his politics for a long time and hence didn’t hesitate to criticize the president in 2018.

LeBron said, “What I’ve noticed over the past few months (Is) he’s kinda used sports to kinda divide us, and that’s something that I can’t relate to.” Trump had already been aggressive to many sportspersons who disagreed with him and protested about it. Colin Kaepernick and Stephen Curry were the biggest examples.

The year before, Curry refused to go to the White House after leading Golden State to their second title in three years. His teammates also backed him up, which led to Trump uninviting them.

James backed Curry then and wrote on Twitter, “U b*m @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So, therefore, ain’t no invite. Going to the White House was a great honor until you showed up!”

Stephen Curry supported James’ stance here in this interview with CNN in 2018. He wrote, “Keep doing you @KingJames”. The former president refused to invite any of the teams that year after both of them declined.

Trump was aggressive towards LeBron James and Stephen Curry

Trump is the most controversial US President ever. He was always at loggerheads with progressive athletes. Just after this interview, Trump posted something off-color on his Twitter. He wrote, “LeBron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made LeBron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”.

This had prompted criticism from Stephen Curry, who said that it was a sign of frustration from the then-sitting president. NBA title-winning teams unofficially “boycotted” the White House from 2017 to 2021. The Milwaukee Bucks became the first team to visit the House after the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. But by that time, Trump was no longer the president as Joe Biden was elected the year before.

James and Curry had been criticized by many right-wing people, but they were undeterred by that. They may play for different teams, but at the end of the day, they probably want what is good for the nation.
