The $400 million worth NBA icon has had a massive impact on the store because of his philanthropic actions in the past. Notably, the 4x NBA Champion’s affiliation with Walmart was born out of a charitable decision in 1995. Moreover, Shaq’s recent achievement overshadowed his record of making the most expensive purchase at the store.

Shaquille O’Neal and Walmart cemented their relationship after the big man decided to launch his own shoe brand in 1995. During the early stages of his career, he endorsed the global sportswear brand, Reebok. However, after a mother criticized him for endorsing over-priced sneakers, the Lakers legend took the massive decision of starting his own brand and signing a deal with Walmart.

After two decades of the iconic deal, Shaq’s brand sold over 400 million pairs of shoes in 2021. Despite his high-paying career, Shaq’s kind heart allowed him to help people who struggled to afford a good pair of shoes. Shaq shared the same on his Instagram story.

O’Neal continued his great philanthropic work with the sale of his shoes. Apart from his charitable work, Shaq also has a strange record with the store.

Shaq created an unbelievable record at Walmart

During his 19-season-long NBA career, Shaq played for 6 different franchises and he created this record before his stint with the Phoenix Suns. In 2008, the Suns traded for Shaq and the big man went on a shopping spree to fill his new house in the Valley. He spent around $70,000 on that particular day, which still stands as the biggest purchase in the store’s history.

However, American Express blocked the payment, fearing that someone had stolen his card. Apart from this uncanny shopping spree, Shaq has had various hilarious moments at the store.
