The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics wrote the latest chapter in their historic rivalry. The two most successful NBA franchises of all time faced each other on Saturday night in a highly anticipated game. Though the Lakers lost in heartbreaking fashion in OT, one moment from the game became the biggest talking point of the night. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Darwin Ham, and the rest of the team were left incensed at the end of the game.

While the Celtics entered the game with a league-best 35-15 record, the Lakers were hoping to move up the standings. However, a late-game no-call on the probable game-winner left the ‘Purple & Gold’ disgusted. James was outraged with the decision and had to contain his anger in order to not get punished by the officials. Lakers veteran Patrick Beverley didn’t care for the repercussions. As a result, he was issued a technical after showing the replay of the play to the officials on a camera.

The 4x NBA champion made his feelings clear after the game on Twitter. He wrote, “That one hurt BIG TIME!!! I don’t understand“. Davis even went as far as to say that the Lakers felt they were cheated.

NBA fans sympathize with LeBron James and the Lakers

Although the officials have been consistently called out by players and fans alike, there doesn’t seem to be any accountability. The Lakers have been on the receiving end of some atrocious calls this season that have directly contributed to losses. However, this decision was condemned universally by the fans.

The Lakers will be hoping to move on from this disappointment as they continue their 5-game road trip in Brooklyn on Monday. Meanwhile, the Celtics can relax before their next game on February 1st, also against the Nets.

‘The King’ is closing in on ‘The Captain’

Despite the loss, James poured in 41 points in another masterful display from the 38-year-old. After the game against the Celtics, James is now only 117 points away from passing the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the All-time top scorer in NBA history. Not only that, he is just 9 assists away from being 4th all-time in assists.

It has been a season of ups and downs for the Lakers. However, the consistent excellence of James has kept the Lakers’ Playoff hopes alive. The Lakers moved to 23-27 on the season and now sit 2 games behind the 10th and final Play-In spot.
