Subsequently, Griner was released in exchange of infamous arms dealer Viktor Bout dubbed as ‘the Merchant of Death.’ This was after months of negotiation between the two countries discussing different avenues she could be brought back. A few days later, about 6,500 people who were convicted of cannabis possession at the federal level, were reportedly released after Biden’s pardon. The President then called on governors to issue similar pardons regarding state marijuana offenses, according to reports.
