RARE: Michael Jordan Plays Ping-Pong as Larry Bird Drinks and Looks on In Iconic Image

Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, two of the greatest players ever, were part of the 1992 Dream Team. Bird was in the twilight of his career and Jordan had won his first championship. They were fierce rivals on the court and were close friends off it.

Jordan was drafted in the 1984 draft while Bird was drafted in the 1978 draft. Even though they came to the league years apart, they shared some pretty intense battles on the court. Bird and Jordan met for the first time in the playoffs in the first round. Jordan had 49 points in the season opener, but the Bulls were no match to the Celtics.

Likewise, in Game 2, Jordan stepped it up a notch. He put up 63 points in a double-over-time loss as he got Bird’s attention. The Bulls got swept, and the Celtics went to win it all that year. Larry Bird was named the Finals MVP that year.

Jordan won 6 titles, and he was instrumental in making the game what it is today. He won multiple scoring titles, and he became arguably the greatest player of all time.

Larry Bird was drafted in 1978, and he won the NBA title in his second year. Bird was known for his scoring, confidence, and his basketball IQ. He won a total of three titles with the Boston Celtics, where he spent his entire career. Bird was considered to be the best small forward ever to play, and he is also one of the pioneers of the game.

Jordan and Bird were both part of the 1992 dream team and both shared mutual admiration towards each other. Bird called Jordan the greatest player ever after his 63 point performance in the Garden. Jordan defended the inclusion of Bird in the Dream Team, even though some called him past his prime. Both of them were instrumental for the league’s high popularity in the 80s and 90s.
