“We’re Not Calling Each Other Every Day and Hanging Out..”: Dennis Rodman on His Relationship With MJ and Pippen [2019]

Dennis Rodman once reflected on his relationship with former teammates Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. The trio was a core part of the Chicago Bulls in the 90s. They led the franchise to its historic second three-peat. Two decades after parting ways, in 2019, Rodman was asked about his relationship with MJ and Pippen. In response, ‘The Worm’ only had nice things to say.
Dennis Rodman joined the Chicago Bulls in 1995. By that time, the Bulls had already won their first three-peat. Rodman played for the Bulls only for three seasons and he helped the team win a championship in all three of them. About 21 years after Rodman left the Bulls, he talked about his former teammates. In a 2019 interview, Bleacher Report asked Rodman about his relationship with MJ. Rodman replied that he, Jordan, and Scottie Pippen had a lot of love for each other.

“We embrace the fact that we had a chance to play with each other. We’re friends. We’re not calling each other every day and hanging out, but when we see each other, we share the love,” said Rodman.
Many considered ‘Dennis the Menace’ as a wild card to the team. However, his excellent rebound skills would always shut down the trollers. Additionally, he revealed that when he joined the Bulls, His Airness had referred to Rodman as the final piece that had completed the puzzle.

During the interview, Dennis Rodman praised his teammates and talked about the type of partnership he had with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. He said that back then, they were the ones who put the league on the map. Rodman stated that he, MJ, and Pippen were the ‘Big Three’, who transformed the game in the 90s. The five-time NBA champion said that they could have won their fourth championship in a row if they hadn’t left the team.

“The only reason we didn’t repeat four in a row is because Mike said, ‘I want X millions of dollars.’ And they didn’t want to pay him, so he left, I left, Scottie left and Phil Jackson left. We were all waiting on Michael. That’s how the run ended,” said Rodman.

Rodman was then asked if any active NBA players reminded him of his game style. In response, Rodman took a particular Golden State Warriors star’s name. According to the seven-time rebounding champion, Draymond Green was the only NBA player who “sort of” displayed the same passion that he had.
