The Kevin Durant-Brooklyn Nets saga continues to catch fire as the human slingshot yearns for a change of scenery. With Kyrie Irving exercising his player option, many believed that the 7/11 era was still in high gear. Durant, however, demanded a trade a few weeks ago, splashing cold water on Nets fans’ hopes.

The Nets have been open and forthright about the return value they seek in exchange for their ace. Any franchise that comes knocking on their door for Durant’s talents will likely be stripped of their future picks and star players. The Minnesota Timberwolves were among the teams who may have called to enquire about Durant’s status.

According to reports, the Brooklyn Nets arrived at the Wolves’ doorstep with an outlandish trade request. The Nets reportedly offered Kevin Durant to the other side in exchange for the Timberwolves’ backbones of Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns. Moreover, the Nets also demanded a mountain of draft picks. The Wolves, however, didn’t think twice about turning down the offer.

In an edition of Chris Haynes’ podcast ‘Posted Up’, Vincent Goodwill detailed the talks between the two franchises.

“I’ve heard that Brooklyn came to Minnesota and said, ‘We want Karl-Anthony Towns, we want the Ant-man (Anthony Edwards), and we want four draft picks,'” Goodwill said.

Many fans were certainly baffled after they saw the Nets’ asking price for KD. The Minnesota Timberwolves, however, recently made headlines for surrendering a number of assets themselves in order to land Rudy Gobert.

They chose to ship Walker Kessler, Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, and Jarred Vanderbilt to the Utah Jazz in exchange for the French big man. They also decided to send them four draft picks. Interestingly, the Nets’ asking price for Durant is believed to be influenced by the price the Wolves paid for Gobert.

Is Kevin Durant genuinely worth what the Nets believe he is?

Kevin Durant is undoubtedly one of the most cold-blooded scorers in the NBA. At his height, his unrivaled skill set is exceedingly unique. The league has arguably never seen a player this tall operate as he does. He has the ability to handle the rock like a guard and excels at putting the ball in the bucket.

Durant tore his ACL in his final season with the Golden State Warriors. He, however, continues to perform at a high level and remains one of the league’s elite players. Durant though will be entering his 16th season and there is no predicting when the decline will commence. Durant has still been lethal himself, but injuries have acted as a hindrance in his quest for another NBA title.

The Timberwolves’ future would have been jeopardized if they agreed to the aforesaid exchange. That would have left them with Durant, Gobert, and D’Angelo Russell. Given how stacked the Western Conference will be next season, that seemingly doesn’t appear to be a formidable lineup.
