REPORT: NBA Star Could Face Severe Consequences of the Law as Fan Sues Him for Destruction of His Property

Jusuf Nurkic had one of his better seasons in the NBA in terms of numbers. However, the moment of the season, unfortunately, would be when he lost his cool and threw a fan’s phone away. Earlier this season, an Indiana Pacers fan who was seated courtside, allegedly said some ill-mannered things about Nurkic’s mother and grandmother. Nurkic had recently lost his grandmother and understandably could not control himself from taking such an action.
The Trail Blazers star lost his cool and acted in anger. While it is understandable why he would take this road, it is also something that can not be done. For an NBA star, throwing someone’s phone would obviously entail consequences even if it is a reaction to something intolerable. There is no law for speaking the things one should not say, but there can be legal consequences when there is physical contact and/or like in this case, damage of property.

The fan involved in all this, who allegedly insulted Nurkic’s dead grandmother, has now filed a case. As per IndyStar, Steven Geske, the Indiana Pacers fan, has decided to sue Jusuf Nurkic for property damage that was caused when the NBA star threw his phone.
Following the game in Indianapolis in late March, then injured Jusuf Nurkic confronted fan Steven Geske, which resulted in Nurkic throwing the fan’s phone into the stands. The NBA subsequently levied a $40,000 fine against Nurkic for the interaction.
NBA fans react in support of Jusuf Nurkic
The video of the viral moment does not include the words that led to the reaction from Portland Trail Blazers’ center. Steven Geske is a lacrosse coach at Zionsville High School. He is also suing Yahoo’s Chris Haynes after having his phone thrown at the Pacers game. The fans on Twitter weren’t having any of it and supported Nurkic during the incident.

Didn’t he say sum bout his dead grandma?

There’s no law allowing you to vandalize someone’s property because they said something about your grandma. It’s not right of course but you don’t get to throw peoples stuff because they said a mean thing.

The thing is nurkic wasnt even playing in the game. That fan was purposely trying to get under Nurks skin to be annoying. The story of nurks grandmother passing was very well known when it happened. That fan knew what he was doing.

However the reported lawsuit states that, “at no time did Geske ever insult, comment on, or mention Nurkić’s mother or grandmother. At no time did Geske, nor anyone in his party, use profanity or any other derogatory language. Geske did not do or say anything inappropriate during or after the game. The lawsuit says witnesses described Geske’s words during the game as ‘G-Rated,’ ‘light-hearted,’ and ‘humorous.’”
