Michael Jordan has created a legacy that has made him possibly the greatest basketball player ever. He is the superlative for greatness. We often refer to someone as the “Michael Jordan” of something to hint towards the fact that he or she is the best at something. A player being compared to Michael Jordan proves the potential of that player. One such player was Vince Carter in his playing days.

Vinsanity, Vince Carter, is the only player after LeBron James and Michael Jordan in league history to have at least 25,000 points to go with 4,500 assists, 800 blocks, and 500 three-pointers. It is clear how much talent Vince had and how great a player he was.

Vince Carter could have been the next Michael Jordan

Carter spent a long career in the NBA. He played for 22 years and was one of the most respected individuals in the league by the time of his retirement in 2020. He played shooting guard mainly just like Jordan. His game was surprisingly similar to MJ as well.

Vince Carter, despite having undisputed talent, could never live up to his potential and the hype. He only managed a career average of 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Carter, with 25,728 career points, stands 19th on the list of all-time leaders for most points. He only played in one conference final that was too late in his career at 33. However, he is undoubtedly one of the most electrifying dunkers in league history, but Vince made just two All-NBA teams and never finished higher than 10th in MVP voting.

He played for 8 different franchises namely Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks. Despite playing for different teams, he was credited as being a legend for the Toronto Raptors. On his best day, Vinsanity showed the promise of being one of the best players in the league. But he never fulfilled his potential.

He fell short on expectations and even after having the talent to challenge to be among the best players; he didn’t because he could never come close to an NBA championship, let alone winning it. Vince Carter could have been the next Michael Jordan but as it turns out there is only one.
