With Frank Vogel getting sacked after the season ended, the hunt for a new coach to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers has already started. Several big names have already started making the rounds, but there is no clear frontrunner yet. However, one top candidate has ruled himself out from the job.

Brad Stevens is the president of basketball operations for the Boston Celtics. He is also a former head coach and was considered by many to be the best in the league. He stepped down from the head coach role last year, to become the president. And he has constructed a roster that finished 2nd in the East. Stevens has done an excellent job in reconstructing this roster and building around Jayson Tatum. And he says that he is going nowhere, especially not to LA.

Brad Stevens rules himself out for coaching LeBron James and the Lakers

Stevens addressed rumors of linking him with the Lakers coaching job. He says, “No. Not entertaining. First of all, I have no idea what my future holds. I’m in one of those positions where someone decides to move on from me and this is the world we live in. I’m definitely not leaving to go to the Lakers. I know that for a fact.”

“I have not been a person they will reach out to anyway. They’ve got a lot of good candidates. They have a lot of better candidates than me I’m sure.”

There have been a lot of big names linked with the Lakers including Doc Rivers, Quin Snyder, Nick Nurse, and others. All these top coaches are with different teams and it would be hard to get them. Especially with how Vogel was treated on his way out, coaches are less inclined to come to the Lakers.

The Lakers also have their task cut out. Any coach in the world would love to have LeBron James but the Lakers roster right now is poorly constructed. They do have Anthony Davis but if he doesn’t work out his injury troubles, he will be a liability. They still have Russell Westbrook and his $47 Million contract to account for. This leaves them with very little cap space and flexibility. The front office will need to work this out soon, otherwise they will have a hard time attracting any good coach.
