“Robin Instead Of Batman”: Michael Jordan Getting Ditched By Warriors Member, Days After Confirmation Of Head Coach Appointment, Sends NBA Fans In A Frenzy

There are not many people who can say no to Michael Jordan. Apparently, Kenny Atkinson, a top coach of the Golden State Warriors, did. He was all set to take the position of Jordan-owned Charlotte Hornets. As per recent reports, he has pulled out of the opportunity and decided to stay with the Warriors as their head coach.

A few days back, Kenny Atkinson agreed to a four-year contract with Hornets for the head coach position. Although before the contract could have been signed, he has pulled out as per Bleacher Report. Now Charlotte, along with the Utah Jazz are the two teams with no head coach. 

What does it mean for Charlotte?

The NBA draft is around the corner, and it will be crucial for the Hornets. They have 3 different picks and 2 of them are in the top 15. Having no head coach could turn out to be detrimental.

Hornets failed to qualify for playoffs this year and they don’t have a strategy as of now to rebuild a team. In their search to replace James Borrego, who was fired in April at the end of his fourth season, the Hornets had spoken to a number of other candidates. Charlotte had been keeping an eye on Darvin Ham, Mike D’Antoni, and Terry Stotts.

What are fans saying?

Fans are in frenzy and taking digs at the former Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. They are in a split on whether the decision of Atkinson is right or wrong. Some feel that Atkinson is just lazy and unwilling to go out of his comfort zone. On the other hand, they feel that the reason Atkinson pulled out is that it would be way too difficult for him. 

It has also started speculations around Steve Kerr’s retirement plans. Many fans believe that Atkinson pulling out is a decision taken by the team.

Fans believe that no good coach would like to invest their time in the current Hornets. In addition to that, many also believe that this is a great chance for Atkinson to strengthen his resume considering the roster Warriors have.
