The Los Angeles Lakers are making a grand gesture for the player that couldn’t take the floor with them last season and get a title. Despite not playing even a minute for the purple and gold because of his unfortunate ACL injury, the Lakers are making sure he still receives his championship ring when he they host his new team, the Houston Rockets in Staples Center. Cousins even had something to say when he got to know about this.

DeMarcus Cousins feels valued by the Lakers

The 30-year-old suffered his injury during his campaign with the Golden State Warriors in 2018-19. But when the Lakers signed him in the summer of 2019, they had high expectations from the four-time All-Star. They believed he would play a key role alongside their superstar, LeBron James.

However, in the preseason itself, his season-ending injury landed him on the bench. And by February 2020, the Lakers decided they didn’t require his services any longer. Yet, they decided to present him with the ring for the contributions he made in the locker room while he was with them.

In an interview with him, he stated, “It’s dope man, it’s dope. It just shows my presence was appreciated in that locker room. I wish I was able to step on the floor and perform with the guys, but I did do my limited part. I am thankful for it.” 

Talking about receiving the ring in this way, he said, “It will be a dope moment. Obviously, it’s not the way that I wanted it. But I am still appreciative of it. I am thankful like I said.”

How is his career panning out with the Rockets?

DeMarcus may not be the dominant man that he long back was, he is having a decent season with the Houston Rockets. The good news is that he has been healthy for most of it and has also had some breakout games for them.

However, it is possible he might get to clock in some extra minutes as Christian Wood is out indefinitely because of his ankle injury. Without their former franchise star, James Harden, Houston is doing far better than anybody had expected. John Wall is doing justice to his reputation, proving to them that they made the right choice in taking him in.

The Rockets aren’t far from making it to the top eight in the Western Conference. Will they be able to overtake the Warriors?
