Russell Westbrook’s time with the Los Angeles Lakers is seemingly coming to an end. With the Lakers trading for Patrick Beverley, many expect Westbrook to be traded away from the Lakers and LeBron James. However, a prominent NBA analyst claims that Westbrook’s time in the NBA may come to an end if that happens.

The Lakers got Westbrook last season to try and contend for the title. Not only were they not a contending team, but they fail to even make it to the playoffs. The Lakers just never seemed to get going because of injuries. However, Westbrook’s play wasn’t that great either. And the blame fell squarely on him as the Lakers experiment failed spectacularly.

Westbrook may be out of the NBA if LeBron James and the Lakers trade him

Bill Simmons is a prominent NBA analyst, and he has a hot take on the Westbrook situation. He says, “If that trade did happen…I think he’s out of the league. I’m not saying that in the Skip Bayless way. I just think he’s the rare kind of guy where if you’re a tanking team or a lottery team, why would you bring him in? All he’s gonna do is try to play 40 minutes a game and put up stats and make you more competitive.”

“If you’re a playoff team, I can’t think of a playoff team that he would be additive to. He’s not gonna want to come off the bench,” he added.

The Lakers are reportedly looking to trade Westbrook for months now, but they haven’t done it so far. However, it is obvious that Westbrook still has gas left in his tank, but teams are not sure if he can contribute to a title-winning run.

It will be very interesting to see where Westbrook ends up before the start of the season. But the league cannot make the same mistake it made with Carmelo Anthony. Westbrook has been one of the defining players of this generation and it would not be fair for him to be out of a job.
