Basketball has always been a sport passed down through generations. There have been several instances of sons following in their father’s footsteps and making it to the NBA. Scotty Pippen Jr. is the most recent addition to this ever-expanding roster of second-generation NBA players.

He is, as the name implies, the son of Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen. During his NBA career, Pippen, alongside Michael Jordan, dominated the league as stalwarts of the Chicago Bulls, winning six NBA titles together. And now, with Scotty Pippen Jr. penning a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, he is set to star for the team’s summer league roster.

Scottie Pippen recently turned to Twitter to voice his pride in his son. Seeing his son make the NBA was one of the best moments of his fatherhood, he remarked.

His son, however, didn’t back down from slinging shade at his father. Following his first Summer League practice with the Lakers, Pippen Jr. was questioned if they both had lately played any one-on-ones with each other. He stated that they stopped playing a while ago as he used to wear his dad out.

My dad stopped playing with me. I was wearing him out,” he said. “I used to beat him, and he would fake injuries and stuff. He wouldn’t give me the credit so we stopped playing a while ago,” he added.

Scotty dominating his father in one-on-ones is something one can believe in, especially since Pippen Sr. is now 56. Whereas his son is only 21 and was named First Team All-SEC while starring for Vanderbilt.

The Lakers struck gold when they acquired Scotty Pippen Jr.

The Los Angeles Lakers entered the NBA Draft with just one pick, which they obtained earlier in the day. The franchise quickly got to work after picking Max Christie with the 35th pick, aiming for the brightest undrafted talent.

That’s where the Lakers made headlines when they acquired NBA royalty offspring Scotty Pippen Jr. They also acquired Shareef O’Neal, the son of Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Pippen Jr. was a cornerstone for the Vanderbilt Commodores, who are coached by former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse. What characterizes him is his ability to create his own shot, which enabled him to lead the conference in scoring last season with 20.4 points per game. In addition to his ability to generate his own offence, he can also create offence for others with his passing.

With his quick hands and solid defense, he is also considered to be a defensive force at the point guard position. Being a defensive-minded coach, Darvin Ham can definitely help Pippin Jr skim the surface of his potential and turn that two-way contract into a guaranteed one. He, however, has a lot of work to do on his shooting if he wants to be a mainstay in the league.
