The ‘Greek Freak’, as they call him, started the decade on a solid note and made himself a global icon following the dream run in 2021. Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks has risen through the ranks and has become one of the best players in the game. Antetokounmpo’s unstoppable game has forced many fans to declare him the best player in the league.

Antetokounmpo’s journey to the NBA from the streets of Athens, Greece, is a tale of legends. Through his dominant performance in the past few years, the ‘Greek Freek’ has heralded himself among the top names in the league. Moreover, his humble and fun-loving personality has made him a fan favorite. But when asked whether he was ‘the’ face of the NBA in a recent interview, Antetokounmpo humbly declined in favor of a fellow superstar.

Giannis Antetoukoumpo declines the NBA crown due to King James

2x MVP and NBA champion Giannis Antetoukounmpo recently appeared on his former teammate Serge Ibaka’s show dubbed ‘How hungry are you.’ In the show, Ibaka invites guests from the NBA landscape and beyond and offers them eccentric Congolese delicacies. While ‘enjoying’ the food, Ibaka then asks the guest relevant questions and engages in amusing banter. The recent episode featuring the hilarious Antetoukounmpo was a treat for the fans.

In one of the segments in the episode, Ibaka asked Antetoukounmpo whether he felt he was the face of the league. The Greek Freak humbly declined and said, “I am one of the faces of the league…” Ibaka then forced him to answer whether he was ‘the’ face of the league, to which Giannis replied, “No, no, LeBron [James] is still playing.” Moreover, apart from LeBron James, he further mentioned the likes of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic as the many faces of the league.

Like always, Antetoukounmpo displayed a high sense of class and humility while addressing such a controversial statement. But regardless of his humble remarks, the Greek Freak has a dominant case for ‘the’ face of the league.

The Bucks are looking good this season

The Milwaukee Bucks have had one of the best starts to the 2022-23 regular season. They went on an impressive 7-0 run in the season’s first two weeks. Moreover, they currently stand among the top teams in the league as the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks have achieved all the above without their second-best player Khris Middleton in the picture.
