According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Luka Doncic would miss Game 1 and there is also significant doubt about the 23-year-old All-Star’s availability ahead of Monday night’s Game 2. Dallas Mavericks later officially listed doubtful (left calf strain) for Saturday afternoon’s playoff opener against the Utah Jazz.

Luka Doncic: Injury progress
Doncic sustained this injury while playing against the San Antonio Spurs last Sunday. He landed awkwardly after elevating for a pass and immediately began grimacing in pain as he grabbed at his left calf. It’s a significant blow for the Mavericks as they would have played most of their playoff matches at home.

The team has to be extra careful with Doncic as he is essential to everything the Mavericks do on offense. The Mavericks were really hopeful about Doncic’s progress this week but it has been dashed due to this. The team has not revealed the severity of Doncic’s injury since his MRI was conducted on Monday.

The “doubtful” tag suggests that Doncic will most likely not play those games but if his recovery makes significant progress over the next day, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of him playing.

At the end of Tuesday and Wednesday, he was riding a stationary exercise bike. His teammates finished shooting drills during those days. On Thursday, he worked on a treadmill just before reporters came into the facility.

With Doncic expected to miss Game 1, Dallas will have to turn to Spencer Dinwiddie and Jalen Brunson to try to fill his shoes. While that’s a tall order, Dinwiddie and Brunson have been integral to Dallas’ success this season.
