When Sanders faced heavy backlash for his preference for players from dual-parent households, the big man firmly stood with the NFL legend. Shaq, however, has now extended his support to kids coming from single-parent homes.

Shaquille O’Neal’s parents sent him to the Boys and Girls Club, which was a big influence in his childhood. Over two months ago, Deion Sanders landed in hot waters after revealing his selection criteria when scouting players. The Super Bowl champion turned coach ensures that the quarterbacks of his team come from dual-parent homes. On the other hand, he claimed to prefer defensive linemen raised by single mothers.

While many called Sanders out, Shaquille O’Neal revealed in his podcast that he doesn’t disagree with Sanders. Besides, he went on to explain how crucial a role a father plays in shaping a child’s discipline. To nail down his claim and support for Sanders, the 51-year-old shed light on his father’s measures and how they helped him become a better person.

Shaq gives a shout-out to moms

In the interview, Shaquille O’Neal also threw light on his father’s parenting techniques. He pointed out that those techniques won’t be accepted in this day and age. Though his father’s measures worked for him, Shaq has made sure not to employ similar rules on his children. In Diesel’s book of parenting, the moms are the ones who call the shots.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend explained that children listen to their mothers because they are the ones who run everything. “Moms rule the world,” said O’Neal. It seems Shaq’s form of parenting is working for one of his sons, who may very well be walking in the Lakers legend’s footsteps.
