Shaquille O’Neal on Teaching His Sons to Respect Cops: ”Understand What That Man Has Seen, Been Through, Going Through. I Don’t Care Why He Pulled You Over, Bring Your A** Home”

Shaquille O’Neal is a legend of the game. He is one of the biggest players to ever play in the NBA in terms of accolades and popularity. Apart from being one of the greatest ever and a successful businessperson, he is also a philanthropist and does a lot to give back to society.

Shaq has always shown his admiration for the cops and is a police officer himself. He is an honorary U.S Deputy Marshal and a reserve officer with agencies in California, Arizona, and Florida.

Shaq has always respected the cops, and he makes sure his children do the same. In the Life of Shaq series, revolving around the life of Shaquille O’Neal, he mentions how he makes sure his children respect the cops.

Shaq says, “I teach them two words, respect and understand. Respect that man putting his life on the line for this country. Understand what that man has seen, been through, going through. I don’t care why he pulled you over for, bring your a** home.”

Shaquille O’Neal had also talked about this issue on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. He said, “First of all, you have to try to diffuse the situation or show respect,” O’Neal said. “If you have to understand that these people are also out here to do all their jobs. So, you try to diffuse the situation. If it happens to get rough, don’t say anything, don’t do anything, just comply.”

Shaq is a father to 6 children and follows a very smart approach to parenting them. O’Neal said his kids can live comfortably for now, but that cannot continue for a long time. He expects them to earn their living as adults rather than living off his net worth.

They’re kind of upset with me. Not really upset, but they don’t understand. I tell them all the time, ‘We ain’t rich. I’m rich’ ” O’Neal said on the Earn Your Leisure podcast.

O’Neal wants his children to have a fantastic education and complete it. According to Shaq, his children need to complete their college degree and if they want him to invest in their companies, they need to present it. Shaquille O’Neal sets an example for other parents on how to raise their kids the correct way, rather than serving them everything on a platter.
