The name Luisa Harris is well known in the world of basketball. Sadly, she passed away on January 18, 2022, prior to the release of Shaquille O’Neal’s documentary “THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL” on her life. It was in the process of being released, but just before it was nominated for an Oscar, the news of her death broke.

Shaq announced the documentary’s release date on social media, mentioning, “Check out my Oscar shortlisted doc THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL at any Laemmle theater in Los Angeles. I’m footing the bill. Saturday 1/29 or Sunday 1/30 at 12 Noon”. She was a 66-year-old basketball legend who made history. She was known as the GOAT of women’s basketball.

In fact, she was the first woman to ever score the opening basket in the Olympics and is the only woman to be drafted into the NBA. Furthermore, she became the first female collegiate player to be inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame after that.

Shaquille O’Neal announced the release date of his documentary on social media

The goal of Shaq’s documentary is to inspire women to get involved in basketball. Additionally, Harris’ accomplishments deserve respect for making such history and putting every woman one step ahead by sharing her story. Shaq talked about the documentary and Miss Harris as he said, “I want to praise Miss Harris by helping her story spread to the world,” O’Neal said. “I didn’t know who she was, and I like to think of myself as a basketball enthusiast.”

In addition, he mentioned how he was inspired by her story and her efforts in basketball. Continuing on, he said, “She made it possible for women to do what they did today. All the greats before me made it possible for us to do everything we wanted to do,” said O’Neal.

“And my goal is to make Lucy a generic name,” O’Neal explained. “This woman should be celebrated. It’s never too late to make a statue or name an arena. As I said, it’s pretty late for this young woman. She’s her I hope you get the recognition.”

He announced the release date of his upcoming documentary on Twitter. Fans are eagerly awaiting the documentary. This film has been nominated for an Oscar and will impact many women who are contemplating careers in basketball.
