During an interview with the Mirror, Shaq talked about buying a house for his mother after the Orlando Magic drafted him in 1992. He stated that he grew up in small houses, so he had to buy her a big house before he got himself one.

?I brought me a couple of cars and a bit of jewellery, but before I even got myself a place I had to buy my mom a palace, because we grew up in small houses. I was very, very blessed, I got a lot of money, so I just had to make sure she was straight,? Shaq said.

Shaquille O?Neal came from very humble beginnings. His biological father was not around and his mother Lucille O’Neal struggled to raise her children as a single mother. She gave birth to O’Neal when she was just 18. Lucille once recalled the struggles she had to endure.
