Shaquille O’Neal on His Reaction if a Teacher Hits His Sons at School: “It Was Good for Me to Get Spankings by Other People. It Really Last Because It Taught Me a Little Bit More About Self Respect and Discipline”

Having built an empire after a successful basketball career, Shaquille O’Neal has made a significant mark on the business world. It wasn’t always like that for Shaq as he has mentioned stories of his past and how he got where he is now. As a part of his podcast at “The Big Podcast with Shaq“, he talked about Deron Williams vs. Frank Gore’s fight, the current situation of the NBA with the outgoing season. 

During the conversation, Shaq discussed the road he traveled when he was a student and how paddling helped him to understand self-respect and discipline.

Recently, The Shaq’s podcast released an interview called The Big “Worser”. Moreover, they discussed the incident where the principal of LeBron James’ school slapped an 11-year-old student. This reaction led to the resignation of the principal, who was upset over the student’s language.

In relation to this incident, Shaq was questioned about what he would do if the same thing happened to his child, Shaq expressed his perspective by saying that if this happened to his child, he would have heard first hand and would respond accordingly.

On being asked what he would do if one of his sons got into such a situation, he said he would first analyze the situation to determine what happened, and then react accordingly.

Continuing by telling his own experience when he was in the 5th or 6th grade, he said that getting spanked taught him self-respect and discipline. They discussed how kids’ parents are okay with their kids getting spanked through their teachers like Shaq got while he was growing up. According to him:

“It was good for me to get spankings by other people. It really lasts because it taught me a little bit more about self-respect and discipline.” said Shaq.
