NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has built a business empire with his basketball career as a platform. Over the years, O’Neal has made some smart investments to help him make his fortune. And one of Shaq’s business role models is none other than Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos. The four-time champion once revealed that he follows an investment strategy he heard from the billionaire. Following the strategy, Shaq invests in a product only if he believes the product has what it takes to change the lives of people.

Using this strategy from Bezos, Shaq disclosed he quadrupled his wealth. The Los Angeles Lakers legend now has an estimated net worth of around $400 million.

Interestingly, things have developed, and it looks like Jeff Bezos is interested in purchasing the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury. LeBron James has also previously stated his desire to own an NBA team, preferably one based in Las Vegas.

The NBA world is going wild ever since the news of the Amazon founder’s interest in buying the team. Shaq also shared the news in his Instagram story. Shaquille O’Neal played for the franchise for two years as well. But it was during the tail end of his successful career from 2007 to 2009.

However, the Big Diesel still averaged a double-double in his first season with the Suns and averaged 17.8 points and 8.4 rebounds in his second and final season there.

The ownership of Jeff Bezos could bring much-needed success to the Phoenix Suns who have never won a title before. In 2021, they won the Conference title but subsequently lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Finals. But the last season was a disappointment for the Suns both on and off the court. And the same could arguably be said for the Phoenix Mercury. The WNBA team was marred by the situation of their star center Brittney Griner in Russia.

However, Bezos is not the only interested party, there are other suitors as well. So it will be interesting to see who ends up purchasing the Phoenix franchises.
